Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC)

Promoters are students who are interested in obtaining new skills and sharing them with other students. JARC Technology Promoters take classes in the areas of Introduction to Computers, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and leadership development. After taking these classes, a Promoter acts as a teaching assistant while he or she undergoes training to lead his or her own class.

The Technology Promoters model has been very effective and, as a result, students have organized a Promoters of Knowledge program. This program prepares Spanish speakers for the GED test. The GED is generally recognized by colleges and employers as a high school equivalency test. The GED preparation program is self-paced and provides one-on-one tutoring in a home-like environment. In addition to individual tutoring, students take part in group sessions using an innovative curriculum in which students learn practical skills for their jobs and their own personal goals.

The program includes field trips and invited speakers from the community.

This program is free, and financial assistance may be available to cover the costs of the GED tests and supplemental study materials.

In addition to GED preparation, the program assists students with continuing education planning, scholarship applications, resume writing and job searching.
