CHICAGO, October 1, 2020 – Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC) is pleased to announce on International Manufacturing Day that its Chicago West Side Training Center is now open after losing its former space last fall. The new center is located at 976 N Kilbourn Avenue and is part of the Freedman Seating Company, a long-time employer partner of JARC. FSC has offered approximately 7,700 square feet of space in their facility in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood for JARC’s Careers in Manufacturing Programs. JARC now also remains a close distance to its West Side partners including Austin Coming Together and the Westside Health Authority.
The new West Side location offers CNC Fast Track, Welding Fast Track and the Manufacturing Bridge program. It will soon roll out two new programs: 3-D Printing and Mechanical Assembly. This will allow improved access to high quality skills training to West Side community residents with barriers to employment. One in four Austin residents are currently unemployed, and facing major barriers to employment such as criminal records, limited access to transportation, and a lack of critical literacy and math skills.
JARC works with partners to identify adults from within the West Side neighborhoods of Chicago that could benefit from a career in manufacturing. Austin Coming Together and Manufacturing Renaissance recruits participants, drives resources into the program, and builds strong community partnerships to sustain ongoing services. Meanwhile, Freedman Seating has hired more JARC graduates than any other manufacturing company.
“We really want to be the premier manufacturing training provider in the Austin Neighborhood,” said Regan Brewer, President, Jane Addams Resource Corporation. “That’s why we have positioned ourselves with some of these groups, to really plant our foot here and have a big presence on the West Side.”
For anyone interested in the programs, there are application sessions every Wednesday at 9am and 4pm.
